Artist's Bio
Doug McAbee grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina where he continues to reside.  Doug is
a full time graphic designer, an adjunct lecturer at Winthrop University, and he creates
drawings & steel sculpture.  

At age 7, Doug’s dad taught him to weld and to work with steel.  He continued to help out
in his father’s workshop through college learning as much as possible about the material

Artist's Statement
Bold colors and whimsical imagery are essential elements in this body of work.  A specific
color has the ability to shift it’s meaning and it’s potential interpretation as it is
filtered through the personal experiences of the viewer.  The carefully chosen images
will also vary in how they are interpreted based on those experiences.  An image that at
first sight may be reminiscent of a cartoon or     ...... more
